When LITTLE PENANG KAFE first opened years ago, I was absolutely thrilled. I had spent my university years in Penang, and that was where my love for Penang food—especially its hawker fare—began. When I eventually moved back to KL for work, I missed Penang food terribly.
So, when the first LITTLE PENANG KAFE outlet opened at Mid Valley Megamall, I wasted no time in going there to satisfy my cravings for authentic Penang hawker food. And I was not disappointed!
Over the years, I have visited LITTLE PENANG KAFE countless times, both with my family and friends, and I have had the pleasure of trying almost everything on the menu. Each dish has been consistently excellent and, more importantly, heartwarming. There is something about the flavours that brings back wonderful memories of my time in Penang.
I do, however, have my favourites. The Char Koay Teow is a must for me, especially when it is prepared with duck eggs. I also absolutely love the Assam Laksa, Penang Curry Mee and Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee. Even as I write this, I can almost remember the enticing aromas—the rich and luxurious broth of the noodles, the fragrant spices and the wonderful depth of flavours in every mouthful.
And then there are the side dishes! My absolute favourites are the Ju Hu Char, Lobak, Pie Tee and Kerabu Pucuk Paku. With so many delicious Penang hawker favourites to choose from, I could never get enough of Penang right here in KL.
What makes the experience even more special are the little touches of Penang throughout the Kafe—the tiles, the décor and the overall ambience. They bring back fond memories of my university days and make me feel, even if just for a little while, that I am back in Penang.
For someone who hardly gets the time to travel back to Penang, LITTLE PENANG KAFE is truly a treat. It is more than just a place to enjoy good food; for me, it is a little taste of home, nostalgia and cherished memories—all in the heart of KL.
